Coaching is...
"...relatively new, as a profession. Because of its origins it might be confused with other forms of helping. However, although it is concerned with helping others and shares some commonalties, it is not therapy; it is not treatment; it is not counselling; it is not consulting; and it is not sports coaching." It is also not mentoring.
"Coaching is a professional, collaborative and outcomes-driven method of learning that seeks to develop an individual and raise self-awareness so that he or she might achieve specific goals and perform at a more effective level."
“Coaching is pre-eminently a conversation. Dialogue lies at its heart. It's an exchange and exploration that gets to the heart of a matter, mirrors current reality in a non-judgemental way, and that thereby unleashes potentials which makes transformation possible.”
“Coaching is a twenty-first century methodology for empowering people through profound questions so they can take charge of their own life, take ownership of goals and outcomes and enable people to fully operate as one’s own expert regarding meaning (what things mean), value (what’s important), lifestyle (how to live) and empowerment (what skills and aptitudes to develop).”
“Coaching is about one of the newest developments in the area of accelerated learning, high level enhancement of performance and personal development. While the field of coaching has been around for three decades, only in the 1990’s did it explode into public awareness as a field for enhancing personal performance and as a new methodology for coping and managing the acceleration of change in business.”
“Coaching is ‘going for gold’ in the client to empower him or her to actualize potentials. It is seeking to be excellent (although not 'perfect') in a particular area, health, relationships, career success, parenting, etc.”
“In coaching we do not teach, train, consult, counsel or give advice – we rather facilitate the self-discovery and empowerment of the client.”
“Coaching is about taking what a person already does well and bringing it to a new level of expertise.”
“Coaching is about finding the difference that makes the difference between average and superior performances.”
“Coaching is about moving forward through the cultivation of even the smallest refinements.”
“Coaching focuses in all areas of skills for performance development: public speaking, negotiating, business acumen, relationship enrichments, health and fitness, teams, etc.”
“Coaching is a person-focused conversation about success, excellence and performance that empowers a person to move forward in life.”
“Coaching is a catalyst for new ideas, change and enhanced performance.”
“Coaching is transformative learning. It enables a person to create change through learning which then allows one to be more, do more, achieve more and contribute more.”
“Coaching enables people as it facilitates them to perform at their best, to create and keep their purposes in mind; and to develop a dream they can take pride in.”
“Coaching also operates by facilitating a very intense and focused conversation – a solution-focused conversation. While this conversation takes place in the moment, it has an eye on the future.”
“Coaching, as a new and exciting field focused on personal enrichment and empowerment, is designed to mobilise a client’s resources to an agreed upon outcome. This means that coaching is all bout tapping into our hidden and undeveloped potentials to awaken them so that we can take our skills and our experience to a new level of performance. To that end, we can now use coaching to empower ourselves and others to develop our best thinking, feeling, speaking, behaving and relating.”
